Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (S11)

September 16-17, 2017

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout Handbook.
 
This course is required for all Scout Masters, Assistant Scout Masters, Varsity Coaches, and Venturing Advisors to be included on the 2017 Charter for their troop/crew.


Presentation and Hands-on Demonstration

  • Woods Tools; knife, axe, saw
  • Fire; safety, preparation, techniques
  • Navigation; map, compass, GPS
  • Plant and Animal Identification
  • Ropes, Knots, and Lashings
  • Camping; site selection, equipment
  • Packing and Hiking Techniques and equipment
  • Cooking methods and equipment
  • Flag; respect, handling, ceremony, raising
  • Outdoor Ethics; Leave no Trace, Tread Lightly
  • Interfaith Worship Service
You must attend both days.
Lunch will be provided for Dec. 3 as well as coffee, donuts, snacks, and water. 
Check-in will be between 7:00 and 8:00am 
Instruction will begin promptly at 8:00am 
The course will take place rain or shine.

Cancellation Policy
Training Cancellation/Refund Policy: Effective as of 11/1/2013 For all training courses that are registered for but not attended the following policy applies: Refunds and transfers for training courses will NOT be allowed for any course with a fee under $25.00. Per person cost fee of $25.00 or more may be reviewed for a refund or transfer to another course within the same calendar year of the training schedule. Transferring fees to future year's courses will NOT be considered. All requests must be made in writing by the person making the payment within 7 days of the completion of the course. The request should be directed to the Council Training Chair. No requests will be honored to carry over from one calendar year to the next.
