OA Fall Induction at Firestone
November 3-5, 2017
 
Dear Order of the Arrow Candidate:
 
The Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting’s National Honor Society chartered by the Boy Scouts of America. Founded in 1915, the OA recognizes campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives, promotes camping, and crystallizes the habit of cheerful service as a life purpose. It is an organization composed of Scouts from different units, and is led by those Scouts under the guidance of selected adult members, called advisers.
 
As a result of an OA election conducted at your unit within the past year, you have been chosen as a candidate for induction into the Order of the Arrow. In order to become a new member, you must complete an Induction Weekend (called an “Ordeal”) within one year from the date of your election. Induction usually lasts from Friday night until Sunday morning, and you MUST complete the entire Induction Weekend to become a member. If you fail to complete your Induction within one year from your election, you will cease to be a candidate unless reelected.
 
Tuku’ut Lodge is pleased to invite you to our Order of the Arrow Spring Induction Weekend to be held at Firestone. The Induction Weekend is scheduled from the evening of Friday, November 3 through Sunday November 5, 2017. Please arrive at Firestone by 7:00 pm Friday night. Please note that dinner is not provided Friday night, so you should have dinner before arriving at camp. Attached is a list of what to bring. Your parent/guardian should arrive by 8:00 am Sunday Morning when we will have an orientation meeting and breakfast for the new members and their parent/guardian. Please plan on leaving camp around 10 am.
 
Enclosed with this letter you should find all the information needed including an event payment form and Lodge registration form to be turned in at check in on Induction Weekend. We cannot reiterate the importance of your filling out the Lodge registration form and bringing a copy of the BSA Medical Release Form (Part A and B only) and having your parent/guardian sign it. Failure to have this form filled out and signed means you will be unable to participate in this scheduled Induction.
 
The cost for the Induction Weekend is $60.00. The fee, combined with a subsidy from our Lodge, will cover:
  • Cost of the weekend including food
  • OA membership dues for the remainder of 2017 and 2018
  • OA Membership Card
  • OA Sash
  • OA Universal Pocket Device
  • OA Handbook
  • 1 Lodge pocket flap

This amount can be paid Online, or at either Scout Center, or you can also mail it into the council office (address below) Attn: Danette Verdugo. Please turn in the completed Ordeal Registration form when making payment. If you register the week of the Ordeal, please make sure to bring your receipt with you to camp as proof of payment. If you wish to pay online go to the GLAAC website, and then under Program, Camping, and the Order of the Arrow, you will find the page to pay.  You may pay at the Ordeal, but you must complete the online registration.
